Community Mapping of Local Food - maps

I've just had a chat with someone who is looking into a way of mapping local food, but rather than do it all himself thought "wouldn't it be great if the community were able to update a map themselves".
- eg, Roadside produce stalls, eggs for sale, jams, pickles, garden veg, local meats, cheeses, etc
Dabble DB do all kinds of maps, databases, etc...

Will the Transition Food Pilot be unveiling a similar food map / database ??

Community mapping of local food - maps
"Will the Transition Food Pilot be unveiling a similar food map / database ??"
Err. That would be brilliant, wouldn't it. Totally wicked. Hmm.
As far as I understand, the soon to come 'Can Britain feed itself' project between Rob H, Mark Geofutures, Tully from Norwich and others may do this - a technical layer, editorial and social layer - but will re-check - otherwise we've seen some good examples and suggestions from others already.
Databasing in Italy
Hi! wouldnt that be wicked! My name is Deb, I work with Transition Italy and am looking into ways of mapping all the food produced in my province. Because Italy is very bureocratic, we would have to limit it to "official" producers (no kids with lemonade stands or casually egg-selling elderly ladies, sigh). Budget is, naturally, zero, therefore to have users insert information themselves would be cool... we will be developing something, in the meantime if anyone knows of similar projects, ready-to-use platforms etc, would like to hear about it! deborah.rimmoiso@gmail.com
Can Britain feed itself - Bristol potential
Hi Ed
Can I get a contact detail for whose pulling this project together? - I'd like to talk about the book I'm working on and to look at what layers they are looking at for getting that local but part of something bigger look - the books will go online too. Go on Dorch (as a past resident!).

Mapping
Dear Ed,
The Fresh Ideas Network is currently mapping - albeit slowly and not that systematically! - Community Food Projects across the South East. The online directory is viewable via our website: www.freshideas.org.uk. Projects can also be added by sending me an email to louisa@freshideas.org.uk.
I am sure you aware that Sustain and CPRE are working with volunteers to undertake an extensive mapping project of local food. http://www.makinglocalfoodwork.co.uk/about/fwm/index.cfm
Best wishes,
Louisa

Mapping
Hi Louisa,
I love your directory :)
many questions and wondering if there are any possibilities for sharing/further work - will drop a line - but also thank you for sharing this with all :)
Yes, please!
I know that this chain hasn't been added to since the end of November, and there's been a LOT of work on the Transition Towns websites in the last few months.
Is a map(s) any closer to becoming reality? I'd love to have something that could integrate the case studies, projects from Fresh Ideas, Sustain's work, and those of Big Barn and other more commercial ventures. Multi-layered mapping would be fantastic.
