What's good, and what's not

admin's picture

We are keen to learn form site users and visitors what is good about this pilot website, and what is not good.

Please don't hold back in your praise, and your criticisms. The pilot has been put together very rapidly so will undoubtedly have some rough edges, and probably some bits that don't even work as advertised.

Our goal is to learn from this work and so improve what we have, or even build something else altogether, that will be better serve the need.

Thanks for your involvement.

Regards
Graham

Uploading seems to work fine

Uploading seems to work fine - Graham, please change the "mistakes" box to "lessons learned"

and the "body" box needs to say "quick summary" or whatever.

Searching works well - but with the lack of case studies its difficult to see the wonders of the drilling down facility. But I did South West first which gives 4 results and then you can search further.

So it works - should be amazingly useful with hundreds of case studies up there.

And it hasn't fallen over once ! ( oops - asking for trouble . . .)

email addresses

the point of contact email addresses are visible. I am concerned that this may make them available to spam bots collecting addresses. Are the addresses masked in some way? Should it be a single-blind form (where the enquirer's email is shown to the recipient)?

exposed email addresses

Ed, I agree.

I prefer a masked approach for precisely the reason you state (although if site membership were a requirement this would not be an issue). We'll review this as we go forwards.

UK only?

I went to add a food case study, and found that the required field for location only has UK areas on it. I'm in Canada :) Is there any reason why the case studies should be UK-only?

Hi Kevin, the reason the

Hi Kevin,

the reason the locations are UK only at the moment is that we started this as an alpha trial with UK project information as that was our immediate point of reference, and the book is UK focused.

Point well made and duly noted on the improvement suggestions page; thank you. This will also affect the forthcoming 'initiative database' which we're working on as well. will be discussed at our forthcoming technologist meeting next week.

In the meantime please hold tight; we'll be keeping the beta users informed as we progress :)

Thanks again
Ed

Feedback on site

Great stuff all.....just added a new case study about our project here in New Forest and didn't encounter any problems. Only v minor gripe is that being slap bang in the centre of the south coast I can never decide whether to pick south east or south west!
I think this will be a really useful database that will help share info and ideas.
Oh - how can I get my picture bigger (not vane but feeling underplayed compared with others!) The one I uploaded was 150x150 I think....
Thanks again everyone

Thanks for giving it a go and letting us know :)

We'll probably offer postcodes in the future for location and mapping

Not sure about the picture - will add to list of handy things to know :)
